Marco Bezzecchi Regretted Crucial Mistake in Tyre Management in Austin: 'I Ended Up With the Front Tyre Too Soon'

After the race in the US, Marco Bezzecchi not only maintained but also increased his lead in the championship. The rider expressed his happiness at maintaining the lead while cautioning that his position is meaningless. I later spoke with him about his race-related issues and how he pushed the pace too soon.

Analyzing his race, the italian from Mooney VR46 Racing Team started by showing himself happy to remain as leader of the world championship: ‘Although it gives me a great deal of satisfaction, [maintaining the championship lead] is nothing. I’m naturally happy about it. It’s too early’.

Afterwards, Bezzecchi explained at what point in the race he went too fast, ending up ruining later his position due to the extra wear on the front tyre:

Since I had a lot of issues on Friday, ran well yesterday, and could have easily made a mistake today, I’m glad it’s the weekend. Despite being pleased with my pace, I do believe I pushed a little too hard. With nine or ten laps remaining, I ran the front tyre out after running a 2:03.5. Afterward, the final seven were very challenging for me, and I dropped behind Maverick Viñales and Miguel Oliviera. Aside from that, I’m content.
