Aleix Espargaro, who had no trouble accepting the lower level that the other bikes currently have in comparison to the Desmosedici, noticed that the Ducati were once again the standard in Mugello and even occupied the top four positions of the Italian GP classification.
Without looking for excuses despite the physical problems, the eldest of the Espargaro brothers said: ‘We lacked the Ducati’s competitiveness. I have no idea why, even with the geometry adjustment we made this morning, we tried everything to find a different balance for the bike that would allow us to corner faster. I was quick during the warm-up, but the Ducati is much faster than I am.
To that end the #41 even talked about his performance which earned him a personal best:
Pecco [Bagnaia] is flying and is the man to beat, but all of his teammates from the other teams are following him, including Alex Marquez with the Gresini, the VR46 Racing Team duo of Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, and the Pramac duo of Jorge Martin and Johann Zarco. I set my lap record here at Mugello yesterday, but it wasn’t enough. For the others, it won’t be a simple year.
