Sturgeon Bay Man Dies in Motorcycle-truck Crash in Baileys Harbor

This is Door County’s second fatal traffic accident in less than two weeks and the fourth in all of 2023.

In a motorcycle-truck accident that shut down State 57 for more than three and a half hours on Sunday evening, a 23-year-old man from Sturgeon Bay was killed.

In Baileys Harbor, Bradley Jordan of Sturgeon Bay was riding a 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle south on State 57 when James Schorer, 83, of Baileys Harbor attempted to make a left turn from State 57 onto westbound County E in a 2006 Dodge pickup truck. Schorer’s truck allegedly ran over Jordan’s motorcycle at the intersection, according to the press release.

At 5:38 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a call., and responders found Jordan was seriously hurt in the collision. Jordan was transported by ambulance to Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, where he was later declared dead after emergency personnel attempted to administer lifesaving measures there. Schorer and another passenger in his truck were unharmed.

State 57 was shut down from the time emergency personnel arrived until 9:12 p.m. to allow investigation of the crash. The Wisconsin State Patrol’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to offer assistance, and the collision is still being investigated.

Personnel from the Baileys Harbor Fire Department, Baileys Harbor First Responders, Door County Emergency Services, and the Baileys Harbor Constable responded alongside deputies from the sheriff’s office and the state crash investigators.

Following the death of 54-year-old Eric R. in a mo-ped crash on June 27 in the town of Liberty Grove, this is Door County’s second fatal vehicle crash in less than two weeks and fourth overall in 2023. Rutowski of Franklin; Gildardo Valazquez, 32, a Mexican national, died following a collision on April 14 in the community of Forestville; Nathan McKillen, 33, of Ellison Bay perished in a collision on January; and Gildardo Valazquez, 32, of Franklin; earlier in the year. 28 crash in These two accidents involved a single SUV: Ellison Bay.
