No matter how close, fast, or exciting motorcycle track races get, the pure thrill of road racing will always be superior. After all, it’s nothing short of baffling to see motorcycles zoom by at speeds of up to 180 mph in areas where you’d normally travel at 50 to 60 mph. Additionally, for well over a century, the Isle of Man TT has dominated discussions of road races.
The 37.73-mile mountain circuit used in the road race on the Isle of Man island (located between Great Britain and Ireland) makes it nothing short of a superhuman feat. It has 219 turns—nearly 15 times as many as the typical race track—which makes it challenging to navigate and a popular location for racers to demonstrate their prowess. As a result, each year the Isle of Man TT is at a higher level than the previous one, and 2023 was no different. Numerous records were broken, serving only to demonstrate how far motorcycles (and the riders who ride them) have advanced.
