Grant was married to Monica Cannon-Grant, the founder of Violence in Boston, and lived in Taunton. Grant was one of the original directors. The couple was accused of conspiring to use the nonprofit to defraud the Boston Resiliency Fund, which was set up to aid Bostonians during the COVID-19 pandemic. The couple was charged with federal fraud.

To NBC10 Boston on Thursday, Cannon-Grant’s attorney provided a statement.

“Our shock and sadness over the passing of this great man are overwhelming. He will always be remembered. He called Monica yesterday as he was about to board his motorcycle for home. I love yous were exchanged between them. That ended their exchange. Her suffering and what she is going through cannot be expressed in words. The fact that all pending charges against him will be dropped by the Government means Monica can at least rest easy knowing this will lead to his acquittal. “

Since George Floyd and other Black people were killed by police in 2020, Cannon-Grant was well known for her activism, which included organizing a rally to protest this. She has won several honors.

The 2017 launch of Violence in Boston had three main objectives: to lessen violence, increase social awareness, and support neighborhood causes in Boston. Grant was a founding director and formerly a full-time worker for a commuter services company, while Cannon-Grant served as the organization’s CEO and founder.

Violence in Boston terminated and suspended all programs as of July 6, 2022, according to a post that was pinned on the organization’s Facebook page.
