Harley-Davidson Launches a New Iconic Model With the Electra Glide Highway King

The Electra Glide Highway King model is the third installment of the Harley-Davidson Icons Motorcycle Collection program, and it’s a nostalgic exercise. The 1968 FLH Electra Glide model, a bike that ruled the roads in an era of paper maps and 15-cent burgers, inspired the design of the bike with its rendered rims, white striped tires, bi-color windscreen, suspension solo seat, and carefully chosen colors. A modern Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring motorcycle’s comfort and technology are combined with 1960s-style styling on the limited edition Electra Glide Highway King model.

Every year, The Icons Motorcycle Collection introduces a new limited edition model that reinterprets a legendary Harley-Davidson motorcycle. a limited edition with only one copy of each model, each of which is individually numbered. There will only be 1,750 copies of the Electra Glide Highway King model produced worldwide.

The Electra Glide was the top model in the Harley-Davidson motorcycle lineup in 1968. The King of the Highway accessory group, which included engine guards, fibreglass saddlebags, a windscreen, luggage racks over the rear wing, and other travel conveniences, was available for riders who desired a little bit more comfort and convenience.

“At the time, this was a really luxurious bike,” comments The Vice President of Design and Creative Director at Harley-Davidson is Brad Richards. “The hues we chose for the Highway King model are similar to the original hues that were available in 1968. Each color on the underside of the windshield was meticulously matched. We did the same thing in 2023 as white was the only color offered for fiberglass saddlebags in 1968. The end result is a bike that is thoroughly modern but has a distinctly retro appearance.”

Hi-Fi Orange (limited to 1,000 units) and Hi-Fi Magenta (limited to 750 units) are the two color options for the Highway King. A prominent Birch White stripe divides a Black Denim panel on the fuel tank from the main color. The hard saddlebags are finished in Birch White. The tank logo is very similar to the one that was in use in 1968. The console has a limited edition number badge and a graphic from the Icons Motorcycle Collection laser engraved on it.

An upper portion of the detachable windscreen is painted the same color as the paint. Another homage to the design of the Harley Davidson FL models from the 1960s is a solo seat with a black and white cover and chrome rail, mounted on an adjustable coil spring and shock absorber. The front wing and saddlebag rails, front wing skirt, and chrome air cleaner cover all contribute to the retro appearance of the vehicle, as do the white striped tires and white lacy steel wheels with chrome accents. Each side of the front wing has an Electra Glide script.

The Harley-Davidson Touring single-spar chassis with a rigid backbone design serves as the frame for the Electra Glide Highway King model. For long distances, the entire chassis is built. Based on the load on the bike, a single control unit hydraulically adjusts the preload of the rear shocks with emulsion technology for the best ride and control. 49 mm forks with dual bending valve suspension technology provide linear damping characteristics for a smooth ride.

Power with authority is provided by a Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin engine. The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Stage Upgrade kits are compatible with this engine, which also comes with a Screamin’ Eagle exhaust, making it ideal for riders who are performance-focused. On lengthy rides, a constant speed is made possible by a standard electronic cruise control. While maintaining retro styling, the headlight and halogen auxiliary lamps offer excellent illumination. Brembo brakes with reflex links provide stopping power. Additionally, a complete set of Harley-Davidson Rider Safety Enhancements are included as standard, including Cornering Enhanced Electronic Linked Braking, Cornering Enhanced Traction Control, Cornering Drag-torque Slip Control, and Vehicle Hold Control.

The timeless search for exploration and spiritual freedom is symbolized by Harley-Davidson.
